COP26, the London Borough of Hounslow and Greentalk

The UK is hosting the 26th UN Climate Change of the Parties (COP26) between 31 October to 12 November 2021 in Glasgow.

Greentalk will be playing a small part by supporting the London Borough of Hounslow. We will be taking part in the Hounslow Environment and Climate Community Summit on Friday 5 November at Hounslow House, from 12:30pm – 4pm. 

The event will focus on the borough’s journey towards being net zero and delivering the Green Recovery. During the event Greentalk will be promoting Hounslow Greentalk, an online resource which maps over 123,000 trees in Hounslow and provides green travel routes throughout the borough. 

In addition, Greentalk has developed an online tree ordering facility as part of a new Residents Planting Scheme. The scheme offers over 500 free trees to residents to help them make the borough greener and combat climate change.

Part of the challenge for boroughs and councils around the UK is to increase canopy cover in response to the climate emergency. For cities, this presents a huge challenge as they need to find available land space to achieve their goals. A significant opportunity in terms of land area are the private gardens of local residents.

This is the first tree giveaway scheme run through Hounslow Greentalk and is already proving very popular. Some of the trees available include Field Maple, Serviceberry, Hawthorn, Hazel, Beech, Swedish Whitebeam and Hornbeam. There are also fruit trees such as Apple (Cox’s Orange Pippin, Laxton’s Superb and Bramley), Fig, Victoria Plum and Pear (Doyenne du Comice and Beurré Hardy).
